Hair Care Guide

A little care goes a long way.

Follow these tips to keep your hair flawless, soft, and long-lasting.

Shedding

All wigs & extensions shed slightly. Shedding happens when strands loosen from the weft or install method. Gentle handling = less shedding + longer lifespan.

Extra tip: If you’re extremely concerned, you may use Fray Check on the wefts (optional, not required).

HD Lace Care

At Her Way Hair, we exclusively use HD lace because we believe in offering the best quality available. HD lace is ultra-thin, highly transparent, and blends seamlessly with all skin tones to create a truly undetectable hairline.

HD lace is also extremely delicate. We strongly recommend professional installs to protect and maintain the integrity of the lace. Avoid scratching, pulling, or being rough. Be extra cautious when bleaching knots or avoid bleaching altogether.

Brushing & Detangling

Always detangle from ends to roots. This prevents ripping, tangling, and unnecessary shedding. Never brush root to ends. Use a wide-tooth comb or paddle brush only.

Washing & Care Routine

Wigs and extensions, like natural hair, need routine cleansing to stay healthy. Regular washing: prevents frizziness, reduces tangles and matting, helps maintain shine, and adds luster.

Wash every 1.5–2 weeks. Always detangle before washing. Use cold or lukewarm water only. Invest in quality products: sulfate-free shampoo + conditioner. Submerge hair and let it soak in soapy water for 5–15 minutes. Cleanse gently, then deep condition thoroughly.

Extra tip: Co-washing (conditioner only) is a great gentle option.

Drying & Heat

Pat hair dry with a towel. Air drying is best for longevity as excessive heat shortens hair lifespan.

Heatless curls (flexi rods, rollers) are encouraged. We get it: heat is sometimes easier. Just use heat protectant and moderation.

Nighttime Care

Hair care doesn’t clock out at bedtime. It is strongly encouraged that you sleep in a satin bonnet or scarf. Satin = less friction, more moisture retention. Cotton pillowcases cause dryness & frizz.

Environmental Care

Avoid chlorine, salt water, and even areas of extreme heat. This can dry the hair out fast. Protect hair when swimming or in harsh environments.
